Located in the heart of the Venetian Old Town of Rethymno, the 15th century building of VENETO is only a three-minute walking distance from the commercial area, as well as from the seacoast and the numerous nightclubs.
VENETO is an elegant building, which has been carefully and attractively restored to become an exclusive hotel of just ten suites, offering also Greek and Mediterranean cuisine, in a unique 700 year old garden, in a city ready to satisfy your romantic expectations.
History.
In the middle 15th century, the famous venetian architect Michele Sunmicheli took over the construction of the Fort of the city of Rethymno, named FORTEZZA. Before this event, he built on preexisting ruins of old major houses, the VENETO, the LOGGIA (club of Venetian officers), as well as three other houses, in order to accommodate the venetian noblemen that were overwatching the building of the Fort. In the 19th century, the richest Turk Bey Risvan bought theVENETO house for his sister. In the 20th century, and after the liberation war against Turks, the house was given to the grandfather of today\'s owner, by the Greek government. It was a gift for his participation together with other Cretans to the Macedonian rebellion (1903-1908) against Turks.
We renovated this building, with respect to the centuries old characteristics of its architecture and history.
Date of building : The oldest part, was a part of a monastery built in the 15th century. The newer part belongs to the Venetian era in Crete, and it was built in mid 15th, and early 16th century.
