Beeing in the hostel for a few days already, I managed to make some friends, and we decided to rent a car and explore the west side of the island where you can get only by car, as the busses do not run there.
5 of us rented a Hyndai and packed inside and took off on a road trip. We drove through Hania, Stopped in Kissamos for a quick lunch and took on the almost unpassable side road to the most north west point of the island. The condition of the road was unbelievable. It is far from deserving to be called a road, and we often wondered if it will get us anywhere but our death. It was bumpy with many potholes and huge rocks all over. Only things around us were rocks, clifs and occasional pack of goats.
However, every passing turn reveiled the most magnificant views of crystal clear waters from amazing hights as we climbed up the mountain.
After a tough drive of about an hour up the bumpy road, we arrived to a parking lot where there were a few cars and a sign saying to the beach pointing in a direction of the cliff.
We took the path this time on foot, and arrive to a set of steps that descended around a corner revealing a beach so beautiful, I have never seen before.
On the first site of the beach, we flew down the stairs in order to get to the beach as fast as possible.
We felt like kids not knowing what to do first. It trully was amazing. Warm crystal clear water. Turquoise colour water till the eye can see on one side and mountain cliffs on the other.
After spending a day frollicking in the water, we all packed back into the car and descended down the mountain and up to the coast town of Hania for dinner.
We picked a small restaurant ran by Greek family that have lived in Australia, and has since returned to the Greece.
We had most amazing food and white wine and enjoyed the sunset in a nice little town, before continuing back to Rethymno and going out dancing ffor the night.
