For Heraklion, this is a very reasonably priced hotel and centrally situated to boot. It's not much further from the port and A Bus Station than the closest hotels and is infinitely preferable if you're on a budget. The owners are extremely pleasant, go out of their way to accommodate requests etc. The wife speaks better English than the husband. They offer a range of rooms, with and without en suite bathroom, and most if not all will have airconditioning. The place is impeccably clean, so those wanting to use commom bathrooms need have no fears. Though the area it's in looks a little unsalubrious, this goes for much of the city, and it is perfectly safe - single women needn't be concerned about returning alone late at night. Being in Heraklion, it's also noisy but no more so than other hotels, and it's very well placed for some of the best eateries in the old city, and very handy for the "Lion Square" with the fountain, a great place to take breakfast at one of the cafes serving traditional Cretan bougatsa & coffee. You may well find fancier hotels but they'll cost a good deal more, and for most travellers' needs the Lena is a bargain.
