MENIES
Menies is located at the north east edge of Spatha peninssula. Here you can visit the sanctuary of ancient Diktinna of great archaeological and historical significance. Diktinna was the sanctuary of the Cretan god, Diktinna or Vritomartis (identified with the goddess Artemis in the Greek pantheon of gods and goddesses), who was worshipped mainly in western Crete and it is here where processions of believers from the entire known world visited to devote their vows. Forty-five minutes of relatively demanding dirt road (you need a jeep to go there and be careful that you don’t kill any wild goats on your way) or you can take the boat departing from Platanias, Kolimbari.
If you are near Menies in spring don't miss the local celebration for Saint George day (most of the times the first weekend after Greek Eastern).
